Who We Are

The Journey to Tarini

Founder's Story: Tarini was founded by, Dr. El Hadji Malick Ndiaye. As an educator from Senegal, Dr. Ndiaye witnessed a powerful transformation take place year after year. While directing study abroad programs, he led countless students on trips to Africa, moving beyond traditional tourism to develop community-engaged learning projects.

He saw that the most profound connections were not made in lecture halls, but in the collaborative work between his students and local African communities. This hands-on approach built authentic relationships and shattered long-held stereotypes, fostering a deep, mutual respect. Tarini was created to expand this proven model—to build a permanent bridge of understanding and action, ensuring that the transformative power of shared work and cultural immersion could be experienced by many more.

Our Mission & Vision: connecting people

Our Mission: To build bridges of understanding between the peoples of Africa and the United States through cultural, educational, and humanitarian projects focused on community-engaged learning. To create impactful opportunities for young African-Americans to explore and connect with their African heritage.

Our Vision: We envision a world where every young person in the African diaspora feels a profound, personal connection to their heritage, fostering a global community of leaders who are empowered by their identity and united by shared understanding.
